About CLI-Anything

CLI-Anything is an Apache-2.0 open-source project from the HKU Data Intelligence Lab (HKUDS) that makes desktop and GUI software usable by AI agents by generating a command-line harness for it. A 7-phase methodology analyzes an application's source code, architecture and data model, designs a CLI that mirrors its GUI functionality, implements it with state management, and validates it with unit and end-to-end tests. The resulting CLIs are agent-native: self-describing, stateful, with a REPL mode, undo/redo and structured JSON output alongside human-readable output. Harnesses exist for tools such as GIMP, Blender, Inkscape, Audacity, LibreOffice, OBS Studio, Kdenlive, QGIS, Calibre and Zoom, and a community CLI Hub lets users browse and install them with pip or npx skills. It installs as a Claude Code plugin and works with agents including Cursor, OpenClaw, nanobot and Pi.
